Annunciation, 1527/1529 - Recanati

It is perhaps the most famous painting by Lotto that explains the miraculous event that take place at the very moment of its occurrence. The scene takes place into a domestic environment, in the orderly room of Mary where all objects are carefully arranged: the night cap, towel, candle and, outside, the garden with pruned trees, a geometric pergola, the manicured hedges. In this ordained world burst in the God Father who seems to dive from the sky like an ancient swimmer, and the angel who appears also frightened by the enormity of what is happening and opens his eyes in disbelief pointing to the higher order which no one can escape . Even Mary, though scared, knows she has no chance. You can bet that the only one who can escape will be the cat, not at all happy with all the fuss that has come to break the quiet routine of its life.
